mendexk software package provides a replacement for makeindex with many enhancements, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mendexk
mendexk is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mendexk package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mendexk *
You will get with mendexk package name, version, architecture and description in a table
